01 / About the Practice

A centre of excellence for comprehensive family dentistry on the Northern Beaches

Purpose of this sheet: to confirm our understanding of Mona Vale Dental's brand, voice, clinical positioning and patient journey, so the DSD Growth Hub team can implement a personalised system that sounds and behaves exactly like the practice. Updated after the discovery call of 1 June 2026. Please correct anything inaccurate and fill the gaps flagged in the Discovery Call Agenda.

Mona Vale Dental is a leading dental care provider on the Northern Beaches, built from the start as a centre of excellence. The practice uses advanced digital dentistry, including Digital Smile Design and CEREC, but its real strength is comprehensive, interdisciplinary treatment planning that looks at the whole patient rather than one tooth at a time.

An official DSD Clinic in Australia, with a focus on prevention, education and personalised care. Dr Graham and the team take the time to identify the underlying cause behind a patient's concern, treat the simple cases and families as well, and bring patients on board as genuine partners in their own treatment. Everything is delivered in a calm, unhurried, open and transparent environment.

02 / Brand Voice & Strategy

How the practice positions and speaks

Tone of Voice

Calm, professional, reassuring, friendly

Target Audience

Families and adults across the Northern Beaches and Sydney, with a particular focus on middle-aged and older patients facing complex, multifactorial issues (such as tooth wear) who often feel they have not been fully heard or understood elsewhere.

Brand Purpose

To provide comprehensive, personalised dental care using advanced technology and interdisciplinary planning to ensure lifelong dental health and patient comfort.

Brand Promise

Calm, unhurried dentistry where every option is explained, the patient is treated as an equal, and personalised care is provided for lifelong dental health.

Competitive Advantage

Comprehensive, interdisciplinary treatment planning that finds the underlying cause behind a patient's concern, delivered by an experienced, long-standing team with advanced digital dentistry and a calm, transparent, educational approach.

Dr Alistair Graham

Dr Alistair Graham

Dr Alistair Graham

Principal Dentist, Owner & Implantologist
BDS (Bristol, 1997) · Grad Dip Clin Dent, Oral Implants (Sydney) · DSD Master
More than 25 years of experience

Dr Alistair Graham is the principal dentist and owner of Mona Vale Dental. With more than 25 years of experience, he enjoys helping patients care for their teeth and improve their smiles in a way that feels comfortable, natural and well planned.

He came to dentistry not through any family connection but through a desire to do something medical that was genuinely hands-on. He wanted to be a surgeon, to use his hands to craft and build, and to be the effector of everyday change for patients rather than simply prescribing and waiting to see what happened. That craftsmanship and the satisfaction of facilitating real, physical change remain at the heart of how he practises.

What he enjoys most is taking a patient from start to finish through complex, interdisciplinary care: planning the change, collaborating with colleagues, doing the hands-on work, and then seeing patients in a better place for years afterwards. He is known for his calm and thoughtful approach.

Qualifications & Training
  • BDS — University of Bristol, UK (1992–1997)
  • Grad Dip Clin Dent (Oral Implants) — University of Sydney (2011–2013)
  • Digital Smile Design Master — multi-year DSD training
  • Further implant study in Australia, Switzerland and the UK

What He Enjoys

Taking complex, multifactorial cases from start to finish: careful planning, hands-on work, and following patients for years afterwards in a better place than when they arrived.

Nervous-Patient Approach

Calm and thoughtful. He takes time to understand what is happening and to explain treatment options clearly, treating the patient as an equal so they feel comfortable, confident and in control.

Education Philosophy

"If patients can see what we see and understand what we understand, choosing the best option becomes easy." Dr Graham slows down, explains the condition, the consequences of inaction and the weighted options, and plans treatment as if dentistry were free, never "diagnosing the wallet."

Team-Centred Care

Treatment is a partnership. Lisa, the Practice Manager and DSD Concierge, is the patient's point of contact for the questions they may not want to ask the dentist, including finance and logistics. Every team member has a part to play in delivering care.

08 / Patient Concerns

How the practice answers the four most common worries

Will it hurt?
We are honest with you. With local anaesthesia you will not feel sharp pain, though you may be aware of pressure and of us working in the mouth, and we talk you through every step. Technology like 'The Wand' painless anaesthesia and AIRFLOW cleaning keeps treatment as comfortable as possible, and computer-guided implant placement reduces recovery and post-op discomfort.
Will I be judged?
No. You will not be judged, whatever the state of your teeth. We have very likely seen and treated worse, and it is rarely as bad as you fear. The biggest hurdle is simply coming in; once you are here, we have got you and we will look after you.
How much will it cost?
We are upfront about cost. For comprehensive treatment we give a realistic ballpark early and never spring a figure on you at the end. We do not apologise for, discount or hide our fees; we explain exactly what is involved. Lisa, our Practice Manager, talks through the detail and any payment arrangements.
What if I need a lot of work?
Complex treatment is planned as a whole. Dr Graham acts like your architect: the first appointment gathers everything needed to design your plan, which is then presented in full at a complimentary second appointment. Lisa keeps the journey organised and supported from first enquiry to completion, and you are welcome to bring a family member.

11 / The Patient Journey

Three ways in, and exactly what a new patient can expect

Captured from the discovery call. There are three entry points into care, and the first appointment follows a consistent, transparent flow that ends with a clear plan and the next step already booked.

Soft entry / lead-gen
Complimentary Smile / Veneer Consultation
30 minutes · free · ~10–15% of new patients

A no-pressure first conversation, usually cosmetic-driven, often a scan and a discussion. Its real job is to educate: the concern that brought the patient in is frequently the small symptom of a bigger picture. Converts into the standard first appointment, and helps identify patients with unrealistic expectations.

Comprehensive exam
First Appointment
~60 minutes · paid (fee per item) · no treatment

A full examination only, no treatment unless the patient is in pain (handled as an emergency). Patients are told in advance, by email, SMS and voice, that this is an exam and that the clean is done separately with a hygienist. Charged after the appointment; no deposit to book.

The plan, presented
Second Appointment
~60 minutes · complimentary (classic DSD)

Dr Graham presents the full treatment plan and costs, like an architect presenting your renovated house, and the patient can "try on" their smile. Already booked at the end of the first appointment. Family members are warmly encouraged to attend.

What happens at the first appointment
1
Welcome
Reception greets the patient and offers a seat. Expectations for the visit have already been set by email, SMS and voice confirmation.
2
Conversation
The dentist brings the patient through and spends 5–10 minutes on their concerns, what brought them in, and their medical and dental history.
3
Comprehensive examination
Hard tissue, soft tissue and extra-oral checks, then X-rays, photographs and an intraoral scan. No treatment is performed.
4
Consultation
Often in a separate consultation room. The team explains the findings, the consequences of the existing situation, and the weighted treatment options, using drawings or a scribble pad to close the knowledge gap.
5
Handover & next step
The clinician hands over to the front desk and explains what is required. The patient leaves with an invoice, a written, SMS or email plan or estimate, and the complimentary second appointment already booked.
Location & Parking

Level 1, 8-10 Waratah St, Mona Vale, NSW 2103. Central and obvious: above Baker's Delight, opposite Aldi, with large signage on a main street (look up, it is on the first floor). Parking is easy, 1–2 hour spaces right outside and 3–8 hour parking about 100m away; briefly busy at school pick-up around 3pm.

How Findings Are Explained

The team uses intra-oral cameras, digital X-rays and DSD planning to show patients detailed images of their teeth and gums. The aim is simple: if patients can see what the dentist sees, choosing the right option becomes easy.

Items to raise or action

Resolved on the 1 June call: the previous USP claim that Mona Vale was "the only Northern Beaches practice with in-house CEREC milling" was confirmed incorrect and has been removed from this sheet. Action for the practice: trace where that claim appears online (website / blog) and correct it at source.
DSD clinic status: the specific "1 of only 5 official DSD Clinics in Australia" figure was flagged as likely out of date. We have removed the number for now. Please confirm the current, accurate DSD-clinic status so we can restore an exact statement.
CMS quirk: the page /about-us/meet-the-team-dentist-mona-vale/alistair-graham currently renders Dr Chase Gatland's bio content. Worth flagging to the practice's web maintainer so the principal dentist's page shows his own content.
Review platform: Mona Vale Dental uses Birdeye to surface reviews (215 reviews, 5-star average). No direct Google reviews link is published on the public site. Recommend asking the practice to share their Google Business URL so it can be added to the Trust System.
Testimonials: Caroline to provide the list of available testimonials so three permissioned patient stories can be selected (action item from the call).
17 / Confirm & Complete

Your Trust System: what we have, and the few things only you can give us

Why this matters

Each item below becomes a live custom value in your automated patient journey, the welcome sequence, reminders, cost and FAQ replies, and review requests. After the 1 June discovery call we have captured most of it directly from you. The confirmed answers below are drawn from your own words on the call and your site copy, please check the wording is accurate and sounds like you, then give us the handful of items we could not capture. Once complete, the system speaks in your practice's real voice.
